Sigma 18 35 1.8 nikon used12/23/2023 Well it's true in full frame equivalent terms. You just have to be prepared to work around it - use live view or try focus and recompose. The central focus points are the best, but if you like to shoot with the off-center ones a lot it can get a bit frustrating. Unfortunately it does sometimes take a bit of messing around to make sure you get a properly focused shot. In my research I’ve read some scattered comments about how it seems to have autofocus issues. It's overpriced though, so try to find it used etc. If you want true versatility though, the Nikon 16-80mm f/2.8-4E VR lens might be a better choice than the 17-50. If you like the artistic shallow depth of field type shots grab the Art for sure. I haven't used the 17-50 so I can't comment on it much, though it is supposed to be good I don't think they are in the same league optically - the Art lenses are pretty special. I would be lying if I didn’t say the versatility of a 18-50 is appealing to me, I just wonder if losing a full stop is worth it, especially since I’ve become so accustomed to shooting with a 1.8. You'll love the 18-35 Art, it's even better optically. Any experience with that?Īlso, I’ve read as well that on a DX body the zoom range will actually be 28-56mm, is that true?Īny thoughts and feedback would be greatly appreciated. In my research I’ve read some scattered comments about how it seems to have autofocus issues (something I’ve never had with my 35mm 1.8) but they seem to be a bit more on the Canon side of things. Shopping for a new lens was kicked off because I wanted something a bit wider and zooming with my feet with my 35mm has never been a huge problem, but I would be lying if I didn’t say the versatility of a 18-50 is appealing to me, I just wonder if losing a full stop is worth it, especially since I’ve become so accustomed to shooting with a 1.8. I have a D5300 and my Nikon 35mm 1.8G has basically been glued to it since I got it. Is the gap between the 1.8 to the 2.8 huge enough to be a dealbreaker? I have read so many great things about the 1.8 but I also wouldn’t mind having a bit more reach that the 18-50 would provide. Looking to grab a new lens and I am torn between these two.
